Airdrie's newer subdivisions often have a rear lane and a front attached garage that is already full. A detached back-lane garage is the usual way to add room, and two or three written quotes, gathered early, make the decision easier.
Garage building in Airdrie usually starts the same way: a 1990s to 2020s house with a front attached garage, a rear lane, and a backyard that could hold a second building. Some owners want a workshop or space for a truck, some want the cars off the street before winter, and some just want a place for the bikes and the snow tires.
Back Lane Garage Co is an advertising site. It puts Airdrie homeowners in touch with independent garage builders, who quote and contract directly with you. We do not build, pull permits or hold a licence ourselves. Call (403) 555-0162 now and ask to be matched with builders who quote in Airdrie.
A single, double or triple garage on the lane side of an Airdrie lot, priced by an independent builder from your real property report. Start with the detached garage page for what a quote should list.
A fixed-scope package can make quotes easier to compare, as long as you ask exactly what it includes. Read garage packages before you set one beside a line-by-line quote.
Extra height, extra depth or a workshop bay for a truck or hobby project changes the design, and the City will want to see it on the plans. Builders quote these one at a time; see custom garages.
If an older detached garage on an Airdrie lot has worn out, removal and rebuild can be quoted together or separately. Ask each builder to state which one they are pricing; see garage replacement.
The City of Airdrie's garage page says permits are required for all new garages and sheds over 10 square metres (107 square feet). An application needs a Real Property Report showing the proposed garage and its setbacks, plus a building plan. The City also says that starting work before the permit is issued may result in permit fees being doubled.
Height is capped at 5 metres (16 feet 5 inches) from ground to peak, or the height of the house, whichever is smaller. The page also says walls closer than 1.2 metres (4 feet) to the property line are not permitted to have windows, doors or vent openings. Walls closer than 600 millimetres (2 feet) must have a minimum 45 minute fire resistance rating on the inside face, and soffits may not project closer than 450 millimetres (18 inches) to the line.
As of 1 March 2026, the City says all truss specifications must carry the seal and signature of an Alberta Registered Engineer. Contractors must hold valid trade qualification certificates and an Airdrie business licence. Ask the City whether your plan also needs a development permit and what the fees are, and confirm with the City of Airdrie before you sign anything.
The only Airdrie-specific prices we have are advertised by BVM Builders on its Airdrie page, read on 29 September 2026. The page does not say whether GST is included. It lists:
These are one builder's advertised ranges, not a market average and not a quote from this site. The spread inside a single row shows how much depends on the finish, the foundation and what is included, so ask every builder to put the same items in writing. Our garage cost page shows what other Calgary-area builders advertise, for comparison.
Three written quotes that list the same scope let you compare builders on the work, not on the headline number. Check that each quote says who applies for the permits, who supplies the Real Property Report, and what happens to the price if the City asks for changes.
Falcon Contracting, a Calgary builder, says a standard garage build takes 4 to 8 weeks from excavation to inspection, though permits and weather can affect that. Hammerhead Construction, another Calgary builder, says more projects are completed in the summer months, so demand for product and labour can be higher in busy periods. Those are builders' statements, not a promise for any Airdrie job. If you want a garage ready for summer, gathering quotes over winter is the easy way to do it.
Winter building is possible too, but both builders say cold-weather concrete work can add heating costs. Ask each builder how they would handle a spring start and what the quote assumes.
Hail is common here. The Insurance Bureau of Canada reported that the 13 June 2020 storm that hit Calgary, Airdrie, Rocky View County and the surrounding area caused almost $1.2 billion in insured damage. It is reasonable to ask every builder what roofing and siding their quote includes. For nearby towns, see Cochrane and Rocky View County.
The City of Airdrie says permits are required for all new garages and sheds over 10 square metres (107 square feet). You will need a Real Property Report showing the proposed garage and setbacks, plus a building plan. Confirm the details, including whether a development permit applies to your lot, with the City before building.
The City of Airdrie says walls closer than 1.2 metres (4 feet) to the property line cannot have windows, doors or vent openings. Walls closer than 600 millimetres (2 feet) need a minimum 45 minute fire resistance rating on the inside face. Check your own lot with the City before you finalize a design.
BVM Builders advertises $55,000 to $85,000 for a 16 by 20 single and $82,000 to $125,000 for a 22 by 22 double on its Airdrie page, with GST not stated. That is one builder's range, not a quote from this site. Get two or three written quotes with the same scope listed so you can compare them fairly.
No. This is an advertising site that connects Airdrie homeowners with independent garage builders. The builder who quotes your job contracts directly with you, and the City says Airdrie contractors must hold valid trade qualification certificates and an Airdrie business licence. Ask any builder about both before you sign.
